Is your company losing workers higher than the national average of 12% per annum?

Aussie Blue-Collar businesses are one of the leading industries affected by high turnover and absenteeism. Post COVID, national averages across all industries report turnover around 12%, with many blue-collar companies well above 25% as of 2023. Similarly, absenteeism levels have increased since pre-pandemic days on average to 14 days per year, per employee. Both being a huge impact to productivity and profitability.

Unfortunately, these figures are often overlooked only considered statistics on a spreadsheet and simply “accepted in our industry, or Aussies just chucking another sickie, or wanting better pay”. This is not true.

Money is not the only reason you’re losing great employees!

If your turnover is anywhere above 12% you need our help. A simple decrease of as little as 1-2% of your turnover can save your company $100,000s, and even more in productivity.

Consider this...

What do your employees say on Sunday night?

Weekends are too short. I don’t want to work tomorrow.

OR

I looking forward to work in the morning.

The Problem...

Disengaged employees cost Australian businesses $70 billion per year.

Only 23% of Aussie Blue-Collar workers are engaged in their roles (less than one in four)

16-17% are actively disengaged (toxic)

Managers are responsible for 70% variance in engagement

Engaged employees are six times more likely to show up to work

25% of remote workers experience loneliness regularly

and 40% experience toxic levels of stress

Basically, there is a direct correlation between higher levels of engagement and lower levels of turnover and absenteeism.

Happy Work Force + Engaged Employees = Retained Staff, Higher Production and Greater Profits.

Three main reasons workers quit

  1. Poor management and leadership

  2. Lack of opportunity for growth and development

  3. Toxic work environments

These three measures can be addressed relatively simply. Yet that does not mean: sack all your managers, promote everyone else and take them to Fiji. It means investing the time and energy into all your employees to improve all three areas.

We find most professional development is either only directed toward the upper management and leadership teams, or bundled into short-term, quick-fix programs. Unfortunately, this leaves the onus on the managers and leaders to continue the learnings to motivate employees to follow what they learnt. It may have a short-term impact for a day or a week, but is rarely a long term solution.

Too many companies try to fix the problem with a one day seminar, or hire a motivational speaker to address their teams. They make their training, development and well-being programs mandatory for their employees. Most workers see these as time consuming, irrelevant and unproductive. They don’t ‘buy-in’ to the program so it won’t actually work.

The implementation of these programs must be voluntary and allowed to grow organically.

Why are we different?

We believe the difference is in developing every employee within an organisation, as every individual is unique, has their own learning style, and just as importantly, their own leadership style. Leadership is the ability to bring out the best in those around you. Leadership styles should not only be considered as how leaders lead, leadership styles also need to be understood by how employees respond to differing styles and how they prefer to be led.

If every human being thinks, feels and behaves differently, then it stands to reason that every employee will respond differently. Our scientifically proven methodologies identify and analyse an individuals thoughts, emotions and behavioural patterns. We then coach each employee on how they can grow and develop these patterns to be more resourceful and empowered. We call this working from a strengths zone. We use strengths-based psychology to enable employees to work in a zone where they will be much happier and much more productive.

Our methodologies are so unique that the chances of someone having the same results is one in 33 million.

We offer our programs to all employees on a voluntary basis, promoting the benefits of growth and development of both their work life and home life. There are always early adopters who jump at the chance for the opportunity to improve themselves. Remember, one of the main reasons employees stay in their jobs is for growth and development. As these early adopters begin to achieve results, the programs quickly become talking points among teams, meetings and often lunch rooms. From there the buy-in grows and the culture starts to shift, engagement increases as does productivity and attendance. This is a gradual process, and it works.

Along the way, we provide participants with a language to enable them to live and work in a strengths zone. They become aware of how their resourceful thoughts, emotions and behaviours may better serve them and those around them. This language becomes infectious and as non-participating employees begin to witness the results, and listen to the positive feedback, they too come on board.

Throughout the process we identify what we call strengths advocates. Those employees who truly embrace our methodologies and want to empower others too. We coach and train them to be able to deliver team programs and continue encouraging employees in the strengths movement. They become internal coaches.

Result:

Turnover and absenteeism goes down, productivity and enjoyment in the workplace goes up. There is less burnout, less recruitment, less stress, and overall less budget cuts.

How much will we save?

Simple answer – depends on the size of your company, and how many employees you have.

The better question is how much is turnover and absenteeism already costing you? With every departing employee there are basic costs like advertising, interviewing, hiring and training, but there are also hidden costs, such as the loss in productivity and the effect on the working environment. This includes the time to find a replacement, as well as the new hire reaching the production levels of the previous worker.

Similarly, the basic cost of a sick day is the loss in productivity and the day/s wages. However, being short-staffed because of sickies and rehiring delays, places an enormous burden on the rest of the employees. This negatively affects employee engagement, happiness and satisfaction. Result – even higher absenteeism and turnover.

For example if a company has 100 employees with an average salary of $100k, with an annual turnover rate of 25%,  and average sick leave at 14days per year, they spend over $3million per year on turnover and absenteeism.

If you could lower your turnover to 20% and absenteeism to 12 days you could save over $600k per year.

And these figures still don’t account for the positive impact on existing employees, who would have less extra work to cover for new hires and those on leave.
