The Naked Emperor

Why do we wear uniforms, why do we wear masks, why do we pretend to be someone we’re not?

Is it because we’re taught we need to be someone more, or someone better or even someone else. Are we lead to believe we need to act a certain way, feel a certain way and think a certain way?

If we have the strengths to be ourselves, to be authentic, to be real – does this allow us to be true to us. To be able to say what we want, be who we want and simply be comfortable being whoever we want. How can we hope to be successful or happy if we have to wear clothes for others?

The three-piece suit, the branded uniform, even fancy dress outfits – we have all at one time or another worn something which doesn’t suit us.

So this brings us to the fable The Emperor’s New Clothes – a story of two tailors who made the emperor a new suit – however, there were no clothes. Or were there? What is the metaphor in this story?
